Whee! Finally changed to the Joker background It's April, after all. And nothing says April like the King of Laughs himself. And now for a review.
Slither isn't exaclty the type of movie everyone would want to see. It's advertised as a horror comedy, you know like the Scary Movie series. Plus, it has Nathan Fillion (Firefly, Serenity), so Em and I decided to go see it. My stomach wishes I hadn't. I have a very strong stomach. It takes a lot for me to actually throw up. I've seen gross things, I've eaten "rotten" food, hell I've sat through an entire episode of Gilmore Girls and nothing happened. So when I tell you I left the theater seriously wanting to hug the Porceline God, you'll understand just how amazing that actually is. Slither isn't funny. At all. It's actually uber creepy, and occasionally down-right scary, the entire time. I tried to laugh. Really, I did. But only two things got me laughing. One was an AMAZING death toward the beginning of the movie, I mean just plain awe-inspiring. You see all of the innards of this guy and, yet, he's still attached to himself, so they don't all just fall out as his two halves slide to the dirt. Then, at the end, a character that's been there from the beginning begs for a mercy death, and Nathan shoots him once, almost gleefully, and walks on. Other than that, it's just gross. There are zombies. Kinda. More like body-stealing, boils producing slugs that go in the mouth and take up camp in your brain. These vessels then move and act eerily like zombies. Not frightening zombies (and this is me, scaredy-cat), but rather sickening looking zombies that make you want to throw up this green gunk that THEY happen to spit up as a weapon. Nice. The main baddie is too weird, ugly, and disgusting looking to be frightening. The scariest part of him is the right side of his face, where these razor teeth have formed and turn his mouth into one like Two-Face's. But then he keeps spitting up this foam that just makes you wanna throw up with him. The zombies eventually absorb into his body, showing only heads and feet and more boils. They show one guy impregnated by this baddie starting to feed off a dead human body. He picks up the arm, looks like he's going to gag, then tears a small chunk from the arm. Eww. Then he goes back for more, after chewing, of course. The acting is subpar, even for Nathan. All I could see from him was another version of the same part from Serenity and Firefly. He was funny, yes, and a welcome comic relief from the rest of the vomit inducing horror. But that was it. One good jump scene, which involved many, MANY dog/cat corpses, and one grenade that ended up giving a VERY dulled-down explosion under water in a pool. Yawn.
3 of 10. Don't see this thing. It's gross, it's not scary, it's not funny, and you'll be very upset that you didn't wait for better movies to come out. Go see Silent Hill, which comes out next weekend, or Scary Movie 4 this Friday. I'm sure you'll get MUCH more for your money. At least I hope so...

Wow I've really gotten bad at updating this thing. Knew it would happen eventually, I'm just sorta shocked I lasted so long Okay, simple updates
- I love it when I'm right See my post about Kelly Pickler, then read what Em has up on her xanga at iwantcoyote. God I love being right all the time - Warcraft has more than consumed my life, it's completely taken it over. I'm staying up right now because the servers on Blizzard are completely down and I'm panicked that my characters could be gone. Been waiting literally HOURS to make sure they're okay. So pathetic... - Finished Kingdom Hearts I, took me about 33 hours (adding the time I'd put in before I'd lost interest). What sucks is, my favorite character Riku just kinda disappears, so does the main character Sora. I'm playing the damn game to get some closure, and now I HAVE to play KH2 if I'm gonna get it. Grrr. Oh, and the last baddie's a bitch to beat. Three rounds. The first is a challenge, the second is downright hard (same as first but w/o Goofy and Donald's help), and the third is just a royal pain in the ass. I died at six time overall just trying to figure out what the heck I was supposed to be doing...
Now, the main reason I wanted to post something. My brother, the big soccer star that tore his ACL last year, has reinjured himself. Same problem. More surgery. And his last school year is almost over. This kid is supposed to be going to college on a soccer scholarship. How's he going to pull that off with a busted knee that keeps getting busted? He can't go through college with just his brain, it doesn't work that well. Not to be whiny, but my family has really gotten the short end of the stick. We go through life completely broke, only surviving becase we lived like we had all the money in the world. Dad cheats with his secretary (ugly little bitch too), then skips out. Michaels tears his ACL, costing us an insane amount of money cause the insurance doesn't cover it. I, basically, drop out of college cause of sucky grades, my brother has a run-in with the police that WASN'T his fault, my mom and brother are basically forced to move his last year. Then the fun begins. Dad doesn't give Mom ANY money, I lose my job and can't seem to find another, Mom injures her back to the point that even shifting positions in a chair is agony, and now my baby brother destroys his knee. Again. What the hell. *sigh* I'll stop whining now. Oh look, it's after 3. Warcraft had better damn well be working.
Edit (3:18am): It isn't...Still down...

Review for Stay Alive...
You know, it was a decent flick. I was pleasantly surprised. I went in expecting a completely goofy movie with bad acting and a dumb story. It was actually good. Not scary at all, though. I went in anticipating a horrid movie, but a sleepless night nonetheless, thanks to an over-active imagination and a lack of control over my own thought process. Didn't happen. I slept just fine. I'll admit there was a struggle to fall asleep at first, since I kept seeing undead little girls, the headmistress and random scenes from The Exorcism of Emily Rose, but I slept. Any "horror" movie that I manage to sit through that lets me sleep gets points off. The rest of it was good though. Good backstory, VERY good villainess (psycho headmistress that liked to torture her little students to death), good acting and pleasant enough eye candy for everyone. Plus, those little jump scenes that manage to scare the hell out of everyone in the theater. Frankie Muniez was awesome. I've always loved the guy from Malcolm in the Middle, but he was really good in this one. Classic gamer, he was so cute to watch Plus, he had the best line in the movie... "Bitch! That's cheating! I didn't die yet!" He screams it at the woman's black carriage as it's trying to mow him down. Hilarious. It's a decent flick. Make sure you take your student ID, not sure it's worth $8+. Don't expect to be scared, either. Once the movie's over, you're fine. Now, if PS2 comes out with a Stay Alive game, I'm gonna laugh. And avoid it like the plague.

Okay, couple of movie reviews first.
V for Vendetta is amazing. Plain and simple. Yes, the mask looks like a clown (*shudder*) and, yes, the hero V talks a LOT when compared to my usual hero (*sigh* Batman...^_^ ). But, it's really REALLY good. Ignore the critics, they never know what the hell they're talking about. Believe me, this is something worth watching. First off, the storyline is incredible. I haven't read the V series, TP, what have you, but I loved what they did for the screen. Bilal's been going off on philosophy in the movie, but I honestly didn't see too much. Saw more of a satire on governments and how the public views vary according to what they're told. I guess there's philosophy, but that isn't the important part. Every word was brilliant.
Evey Hammond: Who are you? V: Who? Who is but the form following the function of what. And what I am is a man in a mask. Evey Hammond: I can see that. V: Of course you can. I am not questioning your powers of observation. I'm merely remarking upon the paradox of asking a masked man who he is.
FINALLY someone points out that a masked man wants to HIDE his identity. That bothers me most about hero movies, everyone automatically asks, "Who are you?" like they're going to instantly decide against being anonymous. The acting is believeable. Natalie Portman did a great job, and this coming from someone who used to hate her. All I could think was Star Wars. Now, I may actually...dare I say it?...I may be a fan of hers now *gasp* Hugo Weaving, better known as Mr. Smith in Matrix and Elrond in Lord of the Rings, has one of the most interesting voices I've ever heard. And he didn't overdo the movement of his head to make up for a lack of facial expression *cough* Power Rangers! *cough* 8.5 of 10. Great action, smart humor, Brits mocking Brits. It's all good stuff. I just know if I see it again, there will be a few...talky...parts that I won't be looking forward to.
Other movie, Best Men. This was a surprise. A very very VERY good surprise. The cover has Drew Barrymore up front and center, and five guys in the background (Andy Dick, Dean Cain, Luke Wilson, Mitchell Whitfield, Sean Patrick Flanery) in tuxes. The ONLY reason I was watching it is Sean Patrick. I've become a big fan of his for his honest to God really good acting skills and oh so very pretty looks, but certainly not for the standard movie he gets stuck with. Struggle through Simply Irrisistable or (:: chokes back vomit ::) 30 Days till I'm Famous and you'll see what I mean. Anyway, I figured I'd have to suffer another kind of those movies just to see Sean Patrick. Boy was I wrong. The movie has hardly anything to do with Drew Barrymore (thank GOD). In fact, it mostly centers around...well...Sean Dean Cain had a big roll too, and I actually liked him in this one. My God he's a big man...Anyway, the five guys are on their way to Luke and Drew's wedding when Sean's character asks to stop at the bank. He's gone for a while and one by one the guys go to check on him. Turns out Sean is a bank robber wanted by the FBI who goes by the name Hamlet because he spouts Shakespeare at the hostages in the bank. He also turns out to be a kind of Robin Hood character, cause he gives the hostages money as kind of a "I'm sorry" gesture, then donates a ton of the rest to...charity?! Yeah, this movie's funny. Cute and funny. If you have the extra bucks and time, it's worth looking into. Hey, it made me, ME, like Shakespeare, even if only for a couple hours
Wasn't even going to mention that I went to the beach again over the weekend. Until I saw the CareBear. Em and I were on our way home on the interstate when we saw a pickup truck with something odd where the truck bed's door should be. There, strapped to the back with some type of rubber cord, was a CareBear. Blindfolded and hands/feet bound with duct tape. Swear to God. Em has a picture as proof. It was the funniest thing I've ever seen. Ever.
